PRODUCT STORY
Albert Augustus Pope’s steamy passion for transportation first ignited when he saw a bicycle in 1876. High demand required that he convert the Weeds Sewing Machine factory to make his Columbia branded bikes, and drove his acquisitions of competitors and transportation-related patents. He changed gears to focus on cars in 1902, creating steam, electric, and petrol vehicles with the renamed International Motor Car Co.
Al believed that America’s material and spiritual wealth depended on quality highways, and so he founded The Good Roads Movement & the League of American Wheelman. On these fine roads, the Toledo Steam Carriage would “Bring you Home Again”.
